Memory Free - User Guide

Memory Free is the ultimate app for optimizing your Mac's memory and is best used after you have finished using a memory (RAM) intensive app or game. It replicates the feeling of a fresh system restart.

First Launch & Using the App:

The app functions as a menubar app. This means that as soon as you download the app from the Mac App Store and launch it, it’ll appear in the top menubar on your Mac’s screen as a small meter icon.

Upon first launch, the app will appear on your menubar with a small meter icon and a numerical value of the amount of free MB you have on your Mac. If you click this on your menubar, you will notice the app window appear with a more detailed view and a colour coordinated representation of the same data.

Hit the ‘Clean Memory’ button at the top of the app to purge the Mac's inactive memory. This is best used when you close an intensive program that you do not plan to use again quickly within a few hours.

Memory Free frees a safe amount of Memory from your Mac. If you run the cleaning process again straight after freeing memory, you will be able to release more memory, but we only recommend this to users who know what they are doing.

Preferences:

Please see the image below to view the list of customisable options present in the Preferences panel.

General: This allows you to select whether you want to launch the app at login, have the app appear in the dock, edit text size, display percentage/numerical figures and more.

Advanced: Allows you to set a threshold level for which the icon (and corresponding text) in your menubar will turn red should the free memory level fall below that. You can then choose to specify the app to run an ‘Auto Clean’ function with a specified refresh interval for checking on the memory levels.
